  • Ensure that you know the precise time and location of the motor trade job interview.
  • Try to bring a few copies of your CV and any accompanying documents.
  • Look keen by arriving 20 minutes before the interview.
  • Confidence is key as first impression count. A good firm handshake and smile goes a long way.
  • Don’t sit down until you are offered, sit up straight and show your interest by leaning towards the interviewer.
  • Eye contact should be maintained.
  • Keep your answers brief and to the point but above all listen to what is being said.
  • Try to describe your specific achievements in relation to the automotive job. A simple ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ may not be enough.
  • If asked to explain reasons for leaving any of your last motor trade jobs, try not to make derogatory remarks.
  • Research the motor trade dealership you are applying to, and above all prepare well and practice your interview techniques.

  6. Check through your work thoroughly for accuracy and once finished show your enthusiasm by asking for more.
  7. Within working hours avoid using your mobile phone or making personal phone calls.
  8. In some automotive jobs you may be asked to sign a confidentiality document, so be discreet and keep your work confidential.
  9. If you are using a computer avoid using it for personal use.
  10. Always keep your motor trade employer updated on the status of your work and try to leave your work area as you would wish to find it.
